Friendship in Pixar films. Analysis in the construction of masculinity and femininity
Abstract
In Western society, work and sport are considered masculine and through them men forge their friendships (Wasylkiv and Clairo, 2018: 1). On the side of femininity, friends share emotions and confidences (Migliaccio, 2014: 5). Friendship, therefore, is another tool for gender division. It is very common to find his kind of relationship in the audiovisual content for children because everyone develops friendships from an early age. In the present gender revision we realize an analysis of the friendly relations of the protagonists of the Pixar feature films premiered between 1995 and 2015 with the aim of defining masculinity and femininity through friendship.
