The communicative strength of feminist cinema: violence and mothering in contemporary mexican cinema

Keywords: Mexican cinema, mothering, feminist cinema, mexican cinema, art and communication

Abstract

This article reflects on mothering and its representation in contemporary Mexican cinema, based on the assumption that cinema with a feminist perspective is committed to criticism but, above all, to communicating the problems of women in their context. For the purposes of this article, we will focus on analyzing, based on content analysis, the representation of women and their mothering, in two fundamental films of contemporary Mexican cinema: Ruido (Natalia Beristáin, 2023) and Noche de fuego (Tatiana Huezo, 2021). As an expressive and socializing act, feminist cinema is a communicative practice in that it seeks to vindicate the experience of women, from a situated body, as a place of knowledge and recognition.
