The Italian derivational suffix –Vcchiare: a diachronical analysis
Abstract
The aim of this work is to present the historical evolution of the evaluative Italian suffix –Vcchiare. After analyzing the suffixal nature of –Vcchiare, in relation to others possible considerations (infix or interfix), we propose a hypothesis on its etymological origin and study the lexical bases to which has been added. The relationship between the different types of bases and the lexical meanings expressed by the suffix, from a diachronic perspective, gives us an overview of its productivity and its semantic changes and a more detailed description of the functions and values of its different allomorphs through the time.Downloads
