Hápax in Nevius's comedies with phonomimesis
Abstract
A characteristic of the ancient Greek and Roman literatures is the existence of an important corpus of fragmentary texts. In these, there are abundant examples of hapax legomena. The study of the fragments of the comedies allows us not only to verify the varieties of hapax types but also to reveal some linguistic and stylistic features of the various Roman authors, which we exemplify here particularly with some phonomimetic hapax by the poet Naevius.
