Horace, epod. 10.22: ¿porrecta or proiecta? Or why not emend
Abstract
This article analyzes the emendation of R. Bentley to the verse of Horace porrecta mergos iuuerit, epod. 10.22, in his edition of 1711. The parallels cited in it (and some others not collated) and the context in which they appear are reviewed in detail; the position of the scholiasts and an analysis of the references of the ancient grammarians are mentioned in order to conclude that such an emendation does not seem necessary. An imitation by Persius could be decisive.
