Theatre and classical tradition at the end of the XVIth century: Juan de la Cueva and the «tragedy of the horror»
Abstract
This work deals with the study of the classical tradition in the theatre previous to Lope in a general way, focusing particularly on Juan de la Cueva. An approach to the literary genre at the end of xvith century is followed by a closer view to the «tragedy of the horror» and one of its more important authors: Juan de la Cueva. After studying the author and his work, paying special attention to the importance of the classical culture in his formation, a selection of texts is offered to emphasize the classic as topic and as ornament.Downloads
