Rational animal: a brief history of a definition
Abstract
One of the most discussed matters in the history of thought is the definition of human being. The search for the element that distinguished human beings from the rest of living has been a question since the very early days of philosophy. The response came from Plato and Aristotle; reason was the distinctive characteristic. This idea brought about a long and influential philosophical tradition, which has also been much criticized by modern and contemporary thinkers.Downloads
