Abstract

Through his work, Condorcet has helped to mediate between the different tendencies and conflicts of his century. This article tries to show one of the most important mediations: the mediation between freedom and equality. On the one hand one of the traits of Condorcet´s work is his constant defence of freedom but on the other hand the philosopher seeks to assert the equality – not egalitarianism – of rights for everyone. The most enlightened and talented men will play an important role in the mediation between this two aspirations.
