Abstract

Duns Scotus formulated the principles of a Philosophical Theology based on the formalism and voluntarism and, shortly thereafter, William of Ockham draw the more radical consequences of the Scotist principles, particularly for Practical Philosophy. One of the paradoxes of the new moral theory that illustrate how the will autonomizes from its own end is the possibility that God may lie or that it could become worthwhile hating God rather than love Him. In this essay we study this hypothesis, called the odium Dei.
