The Indivisibility of Justice in Aristotle: Two Critiques of the Alleged Incompatibility between Distributive Justice and Corrective Justice
Abstract
The aim of this article is to analyze the mathematical background used by Aristotle in Book V of Nicomachean Ethics to clarify the notions of arithmetic and geometry concerning justice and Ethics. To do that, I briefly describe the radical incompatibility between both mathematical models in Aristotle supported by some scholars. Then, I present why that lecture of the author is wrong. Finally, I propose an integrationist interpretation based on a comprehension of virtue as enérgeia and entelécheia.
