Guibert-Elizalde, M., Memoria y olvido en Nietzsche, Barcelona: Herder, 2024, 241 pp.
Abstract
María Guibert-Elizalde’s work examines the relationship between memory and forgetting through the lens of Friedrich Nietzsche, proposing a positive view of memory linked to the concept of the Übermensch. Primarily drawing from On the Genealogy of Morals, the author delves into the origins of memory and its ties to “bad conscience” as well as the notion of “debt,” concepts that evolve to reach their peak in Judeo-Christian religion. In contrast, Nietzsche’s counterproposal highlights the fundamental role of the Übermensch, establishing a new, complementary relationship between memory and forgetting that enables growth and a becoming without resentment, solidifying an eternal affirmation of life.
