Projects of creation and thought around mental illness in the museum space
Abstract
ARTErias con locura has been a project of creation and thought that between 2013 and 2020 developed its activity around a group of people affected by mental health problems. The project, which arose as a result of the collaboration between the Community Intervention Center of the Río Hortega Hospital in Valladolid and the education area of the Patio Herreriano Museum of Contemporary Art, launched different creative initiatives throughout this long period. From these, the members based their work on their own creative processes conceived as a therapeutic tool on the path of personal and social recovery. This text proposes a review of some of his most significant practices, from his first proposals around photography as a personal narrative, through audiovisual creation, the elaboration of the fanzine as a collective claim device or, in the last case, the exhibition Generando deseos in the museum.
