Art, education and sustainability: towards a transformative pedagogy from art mediation
Abstract
The arts mobilize knowledge and can also foster community action, improving public understanding of sustainability and raising awareness. This article presents a research, developed within the project Didactic proposals for arts education in favor of a more sustainable society, in which education, artistic mediation, art and sustainability are aligned. It proposes education and artistic mediation as ways to work on sustainability, with the aim of providing students of the Degree in Art with tools that enable the approach to the various practices related to the arts and art education from a perspective committed to our environment. To this end, we collaborate with artists and art centers and museums, generating a network in direct contact with the current art scene, and we propose an educational action. After its implementation, the results show the relevance of art in Education for Sustainable Development, demonstrating its transformative ability and the efficacy of the educational action to train a new generation of artists-educators committed to contemporary challenges.
