Abstract

The modern representation of doña Sancha Alfonso, Alfonso IX of León’s daughter and comendadora of theOrder of Santiago, was its right to be in the transfer of its body, in 1608, fromthe oldMonastery of Santa Eufemia (Palencia) to theMonastery of Santa Fe (Toledo) andin the immediate opening of its process of beatification, promoted from the toledan monastery and supported by Felipe III. This way, at least from 1615 the representative model of the “Infant” had already been created. In order to form this new iconography diverse sources were handled (literary, oral and iconographic), that we analyzedthe present in article through a systematic artistic work compilation, some of them unpublished, in which the illustrious nun appears represented.
