Image and intention. The representation of Santiago Apostle in the manuscripts of the troubadour poems of Santa Maria
Abstract
This article presents a selection of Cantigas dealing with topics related to the figure of Santiago. All remarkable for their critical approach to the part played by the Apostle in the Camino, they even discredit his power in front of the figure of Virgin Mary, here portrayed as the indisputable centre of the Cancionero. An analysis of these cantigas will allow us once again to get a closer look at the various motivations that may have triggered the development of this project, as well as their connection to the King’s cultural and political enterprise.Downloads
