Abstract

This study deals with the iconography of Don Pedro de Quevedo y Quintano, Bishop of Orense, President of the “Primera Regencia” [“First Regency”] and responsible for convening the Cortes Generales [General Courts] which proclaimed the Constitution of 1812 in Cádiz. Through analysing his portraits, the difference between his real age and his physical aspect in these images becomes very obvious. This problem is mainly due to the artists’ difficulties in coinciding with the Bishop.
