Algunas fuentes medievales del Arte Renacentista y Barroco
Abstract
The present article analises the medieval sources of some iconographical themes found in Renaissance and Baroque artistic repertoires. The first theme discussed here is the role played by the Celestial Revelations of Saint Brigitte on the iconography of Christ and the christian soul, which Velázquez depicted, as did other painters. The subject of the Nine Worthies, which was represented throughout the Baroque period, has its origin in Gothic art, and the representation of Death and of the Tree of Life have links to the medieval programs of the Danse Macabre. The references to certain magical objects, for example the higa, or fig tree, which has a prophylactic function, steam from Antiquity, albeit the inspiration for Renaissance and Baroque Art comes from Medieval examples.Downloads
