Capiteles del primer Renacimiento en las Descalzas Reales de Madrid: Estudio del Patio del Tesorero
Abstract
The Monastery of Descalzas Reales in Madrid was founded by Juana de Austria, Princess of Portugal, on an aristocratic house built thirty years before between 1525-34, belonging to Alonso Gutiérrez de Madrid, Tesorero of Emperor Charles V and an important man in economic affairs at his Court. Now, after recent works in the building, it is possible to see in the main courtyard of that palace some original materials, hidden by later improvements, the first of them is also documented here in 1679. The unusual architectural design and constructive elements analysed in this courtyard are discussed and explained by the continuous relationship between Gutierrez and Sevilla, and with the genoese families around the intensive commerce of italian artistic marbles in that city.Downloads
