From Avant-Garde Legacy to Multimedia Projection. L’Archivio del ’900 of the Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto
Abstract
The Archivio del ’900 is one of the leading centers for the study of 20th century art and architecture in Italy. Starting with the transfer of the Depero and Mazzoni archives, the Archivio del ’900 pursued a policy of acquisition of documentary collections that comprised the avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century, the work of internationally renowned Trentino architects, the verbo-visual practices of the 1960s and 1970s, and early 21st century archives. This article studies the origins and transformations of the Archivio del ’900, its inclusion in the Mart Rovereto’s organizational chart, and the dissemination of its collection through inventories, publications, exhibitions, digitalization and uploading to the web. This transcends the physical limits of the Archivio, making its more than sixty archival and bibliographic collections, that contain thousands of essential documents for the study of contemporary art, available to researchers.
