Abstract

The Linares Palace in Madrid, which today is the House of America’s head office, was in the late XIXth century the splendid residence of M. José de Murga y Reolid, marquis of Linares, viscount of Llanteno and senator of the realm. This very influential aristocrat put together in his palace a very rich french tapestry collection which bears witness in one hand, the decline of this artistic industry in Spain and on the other hand, the survival of a decorative style that refused to die despite the symptoms of renewal that started to show in France.
