The museum in the 21st century: function and representativeness (regarding the new discourse of MNAC)
Abstract
Since 1978, when democracy was established in Spain, all the legislation on museums assumed the definition given by ICOM in 1946 regarding their purpose, finality and functions they should develop based on their collections and exhibition. Following the new expositive discourse displayed by the MNAC about the Renaissance and Baroque periods, we approach the centrality of the art museum in cultural policy, the relationship of the institution with society, and the fulfillment of its functions and new management models, with special attention to research.
