Abstract
This article evaluates and offers insight into the work Frente al lienzo (1924) by visual artist and writer José Román (1871-1957). This essay from the 1920s, almost unknown until the present day, and yet to be analyzed by historiographers, is an early example from emerging Spanish cinematography literature. In order to highlight its original, pioneering and propaedeutic nature, the main concerns and debates of the text have been examined, selecting key passages and establishing relationships with contemporary and immediately subsequent documents.Downloads
