The Role of Fascism and Falangism in the Reception of Modernity in Contemporary Spanish Architecture
Abstract
This article focuses on the reception of modernity in Spanish architecture in line with the norms imposed by the Franco regime, ideological as well as artistic and culturally, at the same time that it analyses the possible influence that this process could have had on “modern” fascism and falangism conception, as it has currently been suggested by the British historian Roger Griffin. Therefore we must go more deeply into both ideological and political relationship that some of the main characters of this historical period maintained with the Franco regime and falangism, aspects that have not been taken into consideration during the process of recovery of many works and biographies of those who, in the middle of a totalitarian regime and after a first decade based on trying to create and recuperate a historicist style, managed to give a radical twist and integrate our architecture in modernity, with no turning around.Downloads
