Abstract

Notable among the various exceptional pieces of silverwork documented in the reign of Peter IV of Aragon (1336-1387) is a silver and enamel table fountain called Castell d’Amor or Castle of Love, whose iconography was inspired from the Roman de la Rose poem. This paper discusses this table fountain, placing it in its cultural context and determining the date ante quem of its acquisition by the Aragonese royal household.
