Abstract

The serfdom relationship that linked Alfonso X to Murcia´s capital in 1243 and more specifically, its following Christian conquest in 1266, implied not just the handing over of the old Islamic fortress of the town but also its immediate ownership and occupational continuity throughout the XIII and the XIV centuries. In addition to this, it must be taken into account the successive transformations that took place then, consequence of its survival as a backdrop to the court. This is acknowledged by the written documentation, reality that can be granted from graphic and archaeological testimonials that have been preserved until future interventions might throw more light upon this subject.
