Abstract

The tapestry, which was the most important decorative art for five centuries, suffered in the XIX century a big decadence due to a set of diverse reasons (economical, aesthetics, political reason). Traditional customers disappeared and most manufactures in Europe went to the bankruptcy. In Spain, where there were at that time, multiple wars and political changes, the situation during that century was even worse. However, in the XX century there was an amazing rebirth of the tapestry. The Royal Factory of Tapestry of Madrid was one of the protagonists of this new golden age.
