Articles of association of the journal
Introduction
The journal Amaltea. Journal of Myth Criticism (ISSN-e: 1989-1709) is a scientific periodical publication founded in 2008 by José Manuel Losada. Intimately linked to and promoted by Asteria, International Association of Mythcriticism, it looks at the reception of ancient, medieval and modern myths in literature and the arts from 1900 to the present day. The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) is the academic organisation that arranges and disseminates its publication. Its Scientific Board and Editorial Board are made up of internationally renowned experts. It complies with all the “Editorial quality guidelines for Complutense journals” and submits all proposed articles to anonymous peer review. It publishes articles in Spanish and English.
1. Management bodies
The management bodies responsible for the scientific coordination and publication of the journal are the Editorial Board and the Advisory Board. All members of these boards undertake to respect the principles of the Code of Ethics established for scientific journals by the Complutense University of Madrid.
1.1 Editorial Board: structure and composition
-
The Editorial Board shall be composed of the Editor-in-Chief, the Secretary, and its members. At least one third of its members shall belong to institutions other than Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The Editorial Board shall have between 8 and 12 members.
- The Editorial Board shall assist the Editor-in-Chief in all their duties and, in particular, in monitoring submissions — receipt, evaluation, and acceptance — and in defining the journal’s content and style, including the drafting of guidelines for the submission of manuscripts and the creation and orientation of sections.
- Members shall be elected by Acis, Grupo de investigación de mitocrítica, and ratified by the Council of the Department of Romance, French, Italian, and Translation Studies of the Faculty of Philology.
- Three votes shall be held on the candidates proposed for each of the posts: one for the election of the Editor-in-Chief, one for the election of the institutional members, and one for the election of the external members. The position of Secretary shall be filled by direct appointment by the Editor-in-Chief. In the event of a tie, the serving Editor-in-Chief shall have a casting vote.
- Members of the Editorial Board shall be elected for a period of five years and may renew their appointment for further five-year periods.
- Appointments to the posts of Editor-in-Chief and Secretary shall be notified to the Vice-Rectorate for Culture, Sport, and University Extension and to the Directorate of Ediciones Complutense, with the corresponding supporting document issued by the Department Council attached. The appointment shall take effect upon receipt of that document, with effect from the date of appointment by the Department Council.

Members shall be elected by the Editorial Board from among professionals of recognised standing, on the proposal of one of the Board’s members. Appointments shall be ratified by the Council of the Department of Romance, French, Italian, and Translation Studies of the Faculty of Philology.
