History / memory or the dialectic of the republican school
Abstract
The Third Republic included both history and memory in their national plan, especially in elementary school. This essay analyzes how the author of the famous history textbook Le Petit Lavisse manipulated historical events for a political purpose, thus turning his book into a work closer to fiction than to academic historical writing.
