The gantry of the European Periphery
Abstract
The complexity and demands of developing a PhD thesis increase if you do not have a scholarship and your situation is precarious. In my case, my interest in the subject of study, the learning gained, my admiration for my advisor and the opportunity to start my academic career have provided a satisfaction that far exceeds the difficulties. Moreover, I am immensely proud and motivated to have been able to contribute, as far as possible and in opposition to the dominant discourse of economic convergence, to explaining the inequalities in the European Union and their reproduction over time, as well as to demonstrating the limitation that the working population on the European periphery faces in transforming productive increases into wage improvements.
