Abstract
Work cultures and local identity: fishermen and miners in Quebec
Due to its centrality in social life, work is a factor that structures the social identity of those groups that share technical knowledge and a common representation of a tra-de or a profession. According to the theoretical frame advanced in Las culturas del trabajo, una aproximación antropológica (Palenzuela, 1995), the aim of this paper is to verify the role that the spatial concentration and the temporal continuity of cer-tain productive activities plays in creating specific work cultures. Our empirical refe-rences are localized in Quebec, Canada, concerning fishery and mining activities.
