Abstract

Analysis of the different sculptural groups at the Convent of Saint Thomas of Ávila, one of the landmarks of the Spanish Late Gothic, reveals how the iconography of this church, which was ultimately under the control of Torquemada, has a clear propagandistic intention: the various images of prophets and saints, in addition to the direct and indirect allusions to the Catholic Monarchs, are fundamentally aimed at praising inquisitorial politics, the crusade of orthodoxy in the face of heresy.
