Abstract

This article throws new light on the biblical foundations of Goethe’s tragedy, Faustus. The text reflects on the language of Faustus in which the protagonist’s restlessness and ideal of live reveal an underlying concept of love and feminity. This concept is also noticeable in other works by Goethe, the origin of which can be traced back to the Christian interpretation of de Bible. In this context the article proposes a new interpretation of the Mephistophelian pact and Faustus’ salvation.
