Based on the characteristic of the crime novel, the German writer provides a somber picture of migration problems and of hatred of foreigners in his novel. The author shows to what extent right-wing populist ideas can affect the well-being of the German society. The focus of the study is the question of how the problem of xenophobia and the thought patterns about people with a migration background are shown in the selected novel in the light of the rise of right-wing movements and populist parties in Germany. The answer to this question is provided in two stages. The right-wing extremist discourse should be first briefly explained. This is followed by an elucidation of the problem of xenophobia in the light of the extremist discourse through the analysis of selected episodes from the novel.
