Border Experiences: Klaus Kordons Die Flaschenpost (1988)

Abstract

Klaus Kordon was born in 1943 in Berlin and is a well-known, award-winning author of contemporary German child and youth literature whose work has been translated into several languages. A large number of his novels deals with German history of the 20th century, as does the novel Die Flaschenpost (1988) which narrates the emergence of a childhood friendship across the inner-German border in the city of Berlin.

The concept of the border is currently one of the research topics in literary studies to which lots of intention is drawn and which is approached from a multifaceted view in this article. With his novel Die Flaschenpost, Kordon undoubtedly contributes to the awareness of the concept of the border, thus making a contribution to sensitization for the importance of the historical processing of the German division.
