Forms of Intertextual Relations in Raoul Schrott’s Collections of Poems "Hotels" and "Tropen"
Abstract
One of the Austrian poet Raoul Schrott’s most characteristic writing strategies is constructing highly complex textures out of intertextual references and erudite allusions. In this essay, two poems (from the cycles Hotels and Tropen) are analysed to show variants of intertextual relations and their specific poetic functions. The poems show how different theoretical approaches converge to become a distinctive language which is both academic and poetic. According to Schrott, the insight thus gained is probably deeper than insights gained by the sciences or poetry alone.Downloads
