Another Presence? – Approaches of Narratology and Neuroscience
Abstract
Referring on prose of Wolfgang Hilbig, Jorge Luis Borges and Lars Gustafsson the article draws on the division of extradiegetic author and intradiegetic narrator (voice). Focusing on reflections of selfexperience and -research of their authors, occurring epistemic structures of the diegesis can be interpreted by paradigms from neuroscience like Point-of-View-Dualism and Out-of-Body-Experience (OBE). Further on the notion of the Unrepresentable (das Undarstellbare) which tends to anticipate another presence of the subject, is put under consideration in the parcours of reasoning. By the way it appears that the intradiegetic structures of selfperception are motivated by the authors desire to change their life reality. To the same extent as the division of extra- and intreadiegetic world is proved permeable the literary text can be regarded as a scene for the quest of identity.Downloads
