Is Resistance against Dictatorship a moral Duty? About Surviving and Dying in Hans Fallada’s Novel "Jeder stirbt für sich allein"
Abstract
The novel Jeder stirbt für sich allein (Alone in Berlin) from the year 1947, which has been rediscovered and has become an international bestseller in recent years, raises the question about resistance against dictatorship being a moral duty and unsuccessful resistance making any sense. Including the works of Karl Jaspers Die Schuldfrage (1946) and Bernhard Schlink Vergangenheitsschuld (2007) the article tries to reconstruct the answer given in the novel to one of the most burning issues about the years of Nazism.Downloads
