Two heavyweights of Danish culture: Dreyer and Hammershøi – now in Spain
Abstract
The Danish filmmaker Carl Th. Dreyer has already enjoyed international acclaim for many years. However, few people are aware of the strong influence exercised on his iconographic language by Vilhelm Hammershøi, a leading painter in his home country but almost unknown outside Denmark until a very short time ago. This article will briefly present both painter and filmmaker, together with some examples of their artistic production and their vital contribution to Danish culture.Downloads
