The crippled virtue
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has allowed us to reconsider the knowledge generated from disability and disease by assuming these experiences and knowledge as a virtue. The unusual fact that the condition of vulnerability and care have been placed at the center proposes a new starting point to reconfigure the political, economic and social model and build the foundations of a system committed to diversity, sustainability and interdependence. We must create inclusive realities in which the narratives generated from minority groups, such as those affected by illness or disability, are recognized and considered. For this recognition to be effective, there must be a structure that encourages and stimulates the development of narratives and representations from the voices of those that are affected, as well as a commitment to the preservation, dissemination and visibility of these narratives, thus promoting their awareness and integration into society.
