Un testamento pictográfico de Xochimilco
Abstract
In 1576 two pictorial documents were included into a judicial case that was brought before the Audiencia Real in Mexico City. They were kept in the archives but at some point were taken out and separated. One of the documents ended up in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris through the hands of Eugène Boban while the other is now kept in the Newberry Library in Chicago after it was bought by Ayer. Although the accompanying written documents have been lost, in this article we demonstrate the relationship between the two pictorials and suggest that together they make up a will that is similar to the alphabetical wills that fill the archives.Downloads
