Multiculturalism and Technological (In)stability. The (Dis)encounters between Mennonites, Rarámuri and Mexicans
Abstract
There are diverse and contrasting theoretical positions regarding multiculturalism. In general terms, these perspectives seek to transcend the contradictions around cultural diversity without violating the universal right of the citizens that make up national States. In this paper, we present a representative case of Mexican multiculturalism: the city of Cauhtémoc, in Chihuahua, Mexico, recognized by the presence of the Mennonites, the Mexicans, and the Rarámuri. It is not about retelling the history of this cultural configuration but rather giving an account of technology as a mediator of cultural interrelations. Despite the diverse approaches to multiculturalism, the presence of "others" with agency has not been highlighted in intercultural descriptions.
