Abstract

Lucia Aparicio, a no indian woman, set up a solvent business practicing divination in the Pararani Copalacaya ranch, near the town of Viacha. In 1789 she was accused of witchcraft, serving her sentence in the Jesus de Machaqa beguinage. This article is a revisit to the criminal proceedings against the Witch Aparicio (Archive of La Paz). From the document we propose the analysis of the material culture of divination that she used, recognizing the contexts where the objects were presented, and observing how they were inserted in experiences of her daily life. The interpretation posits that they were expressions of practices of Aymara Catholicism in the 18th century.
