Knowledge Flow and Social Networks in South Central Patagonia, Argentina: An Analysis of Flintknapping Expertise During Middle and Late Holocene
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to link lithic technology and the flow of information through the transmission of knowledge. The analysis of lithic material from three sites of Central Southern Patagonia, Argentina, and experimental analysis of lithic material are used as data source. Efficiency ratios are analyzed, as well as the presence of different types of errors that were identified as a result of less experienced knappers. The presence of these types of materials is related to the possible presence of social networks in the area analyzed. Finally, the possibility of identifying individual sites from knapping activities is developed.Downloads
