Better off dead: women at the edge
Abstract
This paper explore the female´s representation in the film Thelma & Louise. Firstly, this representation is analysed by putting into context the cinematographic product as a construct and constructor of the public opinion. Secondly, it is analysed as a discursive text that involves a social representation. Particularly, an analysis of the female´s representation personified in the characters who give their name to the film is taken into account. These characters take us in and adventure that crosses landscapes and conflicts culminating in a “feminist” discourse of liberation, in which women break with all Patriarchate´s ties and manage to escape in an unexpected turn: the escape to emptiness.
