Social change, public space and urban representation. A methodological approach to analysis of the city in iconic mass media
Abstract
This paper proposes a model to analyze city representations in mass media from the mediational perspective developed by Manuel Martín Serrano (1977, 2008). It has reviewed some theoretical production about political economy, urban sociology, and geography, to identify and characterize the kind of urban order that defines a particular city, its public space and the citizens who inhabit there. Thus it provides a methodological and theoretical base to identify the social changes of a public space of any city, depending on the historical and geographic context to which it belongs. The proposal could be interesting for those who have as object of study the urban phenomenon, as for those who do it from the point of view of communication practices.Downloads
