Story of a “nobilissimo capitano”: the humanitas of Zenobia in Cornelio Lanci’s rewritings
Abstract
Cornelio Lanci makes use of six treatises of the Esempi della virtù delle donne to testify to the humanitas ante litteram of Zenobia, ruler of the Eastern Empire at the time of Aurelian. The article aims to investigate the possible sources that Lanci used to prepare his personal rewritings of the glorious enterprises of the Queen of Palmyrenes.
