Abstract

The analysis of Machiavelli’s fortune in Spain through the review of the first translations of The Prince: three handwritten translations belonging to the 17th century and two translations edited in the 19th century. The analysis begins with a section on Machiavelli’s fortune in Spain: when and how the author was banned from the country and how this fact influenced the spread of his works, both in the original and in translation. Then the rise and the main features of the first handwritten and printed translations of The Prince in Spain are going to be examined.
