Abstract
Objective. This investigation seeks to determine if the representation of Valkyrie in Marvel video games has undergone a sexualized transformation with respect to the classic iconography of the character. Methodology. For this, content analysis has been used and a tool has been designed that incorporates the gender perspective and is applied to the representations of Valkyrie in 19th century painting, to the cover of the first comic and to the eight Marvel video games in the ones that appear. Results. The Valkyrie in the painting is not sexualized and has been depicted as a warrior and animalized woman (male roles), a nurturing mother, and an ethereal woman (female roles). In the comic there is a dissonance between the sexualization with which it is represented and the fight against machismo that it claims to defend. In the video games, she is a highly sexualized woman who takes on the roles of warrior (top) and ethereal woman (bottom). Discussion and Conclusions. It is verified that there is a sexualization of Valkyrie in Marvel videogames and comics, despite the fact that she assumes the figure of a warrior woman and ethereal woman, which opens new lines of research on the effects of the sexualized representation of female characters in videogames. in the perception of adolescent boys and girls.
