Maternity and homeless situation: Differences between women mothers and non-mothers in homeless situations
Abstract
This study addresses an issue that has been poorly studied in our country: maternity among women in homeless situations Specifically, this article provides a description of the differential characteristics of women in homeless situations who are mothers of minor children with respect to women in that same situation that they are not in the city of Madrid. For this, a quantitative methodology was used with a sample of 92 women in a homeless situation. The data showed that more than 40% of these women in a homeless situation had minor children at the time of the interview and confirmed the existence of differences between women who were mothers of minor children and women in the same situation that were not in different variables: educational level, place of accommodation, time in homeless situation, number of stressful life events suffered throughout life or in suicide attempts. On the other hand, these results are novel in our country the differences between two groups of homeless women who have not been studied so far: those with minor children and without children.
