Towards a feminist own voice in the Peasants movement of Santiago del Estero

Abstract

This work addresses the issue of the multiple trajectories of feminisms in Latin American rural social movements as a part of the experiences of democratic participation, and its intersections with other categories of oppression. For this purpose, we explore the case of the MovimientoCampesino de Santiago del Estero, from Argentina, and its connections with the feminist standpoints of the broader global organizations that the peasant movement is part of. Our approach is ethnographic, based on field work, interviews to activist women and the analysis of written sources. Findings suggest that the organization has elaborated its own significant frame in relation to gender and it is trying to solve some tensions in between difference feminism or ecofeminism, extended in the region, and a perspective based on equality amidst sexes, grounded on their local political experience.

Mariela Pena, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, IIEGE/CONICET

Doctora en Antropología por la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras (UBA) y Licenciada en Ciencias Antropológicas por la misma Universidad. Actualmente se desempeña como investigadora y docente: es becaria posdoctoral de CONICET, con sede de trabajo en Instituto Interdisciplinario de Estudios de Género (IIEGE), FFyL, UBA, profesora adjunta en la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Lomas de Zamora y profesora asociada en el Instituto Universitario CEMIC (IUC). Su proyecto de investigación actual trata sobre mujeres, familia y vida cotidiana en el Movimiento Campesino de Santiago del Estero (MOCASE-VC). Ha estudiado temáticas relacionadas con género, parentesco, maternidad e infancia, y ha realizado una investigación etnográfica sobre la adopción en Buenos Aires, bajo la dirección de la Dra. Mónica Tarducci.  Forma parte de la CAF (Colectiva de Antropólogas Feministas) y del proyecto de investigación UBACyT “Politizando la vida cotidiana: sexualidad y parentesco en la Argentina contemporánea”. Ha ejercido otros cargos docentes a nivel universitario y ha formado parte de varios equipos de investigación.
